Often used in thermoelectric cooling and<br \/>\ngiven the acronym \u2018TEC\u2019 (Thermoelectric Cooling).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Students then learn to analyze its performance in both<br \/>\nmodes, analyzing several factors including coefficient of<br \/>\nperformance (COP) and energy balance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">For the Seebeck tests, the equipment uses an external<br \/>\ncold water source and variable power electric heater<br \/>\nto create a temperature difference across the device.<br \/>\nThe device then converts this into an electrical potential<br \/>\ndifference (voltage). A switch allows tests with and without<br \/>\nan electrical load. The load allows generated power to<br \/>\nflow and be measured for a range of applied temperature<br \/>\ngradients.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">For the Peltier tests it also uses the electric heater, but with<br \/>\na small water storage tank and water pump, creating a<br \/>\nstable, fixed-flow water supply. A variable voltage supply<br \/>\ncontrols the electrical power into the device. A calibrated<br \/>\nvessel allows students to measure the fixed water flow<br \/>\naccurately, for calculation of the heat pumped at the \u2018cold\u2019<br \/>\nside of the device. This allows assessment of the device<br \/>\nperformance over a range of temperature gradients and<br \/>\nelectrical power inputs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">A hand-operated valve allows the user to change the<br \/>\nwater source without the need to reconnect pipes.<br \/>\nStudents need no tools to do the experiments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Thermocouples measure temperatures near to the surface<br \/>\nof the device and at the inlet and outlet of the water circuit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Clear, multiline digital displays show all temperatures<br \/>\nand electrical measurements around the device, such as<br \/>\nvoltage, current and power.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">The equipment control panel includes a schematic<br \/>\ndiagram of the device. A transparent guard covers the<br \/>\ndevice.
